The love of art, fashion, and design led Greg Welchel to a career in hairdressing over 25 years ago. He realized the value of continuing education early on, and made the commitment to further his abilities by attending advanced courses throughout his career at nationally recognized programs; such as the Sassoon, and Toni & Guy Academies.
It was this passion that led him to partner with Tammy Briggs, in November of ’08 to form Trichology Salon, an educational based salon company. Greg’s success in the industry and desire to be the best has driven him to become a sought after salon marketer, brand-awareness builder, and design specialist; helping to elevate the industry.
In 2013, Greg and Tammy partnered with Rick Bennett and began the concept development for the Hair Arts Institute. Now a reality, the HAI is proud to be Oklahoma’s premiere educational center for the hair arts, elevating the industry one student at a time.
Rick Bennett began his journey into hair design in 1981 at the Sassoon Academy in Los Angeles. Upon graduating, he spent his time at the Sassoon Academy training to become a specialist in the art of education. After returning to Oklahoma, Rick became a salon owner and continued his love of learning at the Sassoon Academies in London, New York, LA, Miami, San Francisco, and Chicago. To date, he currently holds the record for completing the most Sassoon Advanced Cutting Diploma’s at 74..and still counting!
Rick also played a role in developing the prestigious; Sassoon Academy School Connection Program, (SASCP) a small group of elite schools certified in teaching the renowned Sassoon methods. One of his proudest achievements is owning and operating the very first SASCP Cosmetology school in the US. Rick and his partners are excited to announce that the HAI will be home of the very first Sassoon Academy School Connection Barber School. Rick believes his calling is to “unleash the talent of the next generation of stylists, who will change the world of hair design”.

At an early age, I knew I wanted to be in hair design. As a young stylist, I was strongly influenced by the mentors I worked with, and thrived off continuing education, finding that “it” was the key to success. Now as a third generation hairstylist, my love for the industry has grown into one of leadership, exemplifying what hard work and determination can do. After opening Trichology Salon in November of 08, and now the Hair Arts Institute, I’m eager to share the knowledge I’ve gained over the past few years, with positive energy that will resonate through our future industry professionals.
Casey Burt joined the industry in 2006, when attending barbering school, and has since worked as a stylist and attended numerous continuing education classes throughout the Continental US. In 2012 Casey channeled her passion for hair and education, by receiving her instructors license. She enjoys teaching as well as sharing her knowledge, and feels the industry allows her to help others by sharing her abilities with people who have her same passion for hair design. Casey strives to experience success through herself, and more importantly, her students. She finds nothing more gratifying than instructing new stylist, and that continually gives her new vision for the industry, and what it’s all about.
Andie Vap Started her education with a degree in Graphic Design and Illustration from OSU, and then decided to move her art in the direction of hair. She attended hair school in 2010, and has continued her educational drive and passion, receiving color training from various artists, and is well versed in Wella Color theory. In the men’s grooming department, she trained under Master Barber- Sheriff Mehmet, and is certified in straight razor shaving by the British Barbers Assoc. She has travelled to San Diego, Las Vegas, Dallas and London for cutting, styling, color and make up artistry. Andie’s passions are education, expressing her creativity through hair, as well as making people feel like the ultimate versions of themselves.
